Welsh Regiment Cap Badge.

William was the youngest son of William Henry and Mary Ann Biddulph of 85 King Street, Dawley. From boyhood he had been connected with the Wesleyan Chapel and Sunday school at Lawley Bank.

William had originally enlisted in the KSLI (32734) but was serving in the Welsh Regiment when on the 10th May 1918 he was killed in action. According to reports he was leading his section into action when a shell burst a few feet away from him killing him instantly.

His officer wrote to his parents saying "His loss will be felt deeply by everyone in the company, as he was one of the steadiest and most reliable N.C. O’s we possessed. He was always cheerful, and set the men of his section a fine example of courage under any conditions".
